The Weekly Update 1/19/2024

The press, along with a few newsletters, have created “the next monster”.  Remember, the press has two, maybe twelve, new monsters they invent to sell stuff by keeping your eyeballs.  As for “research” newsletters, well they invent stuff to sell you their solution to the mostly invisible monsters by purchasing “their” newsletters.

The most recent top selling monster is, wait for it… The Complete Collapse of the U.S. dollar! If that doesn’t scare you, I don’t know what will!  So, let’s take a look at the facts on that.

First, the perspective.  Back in May 1982, when I started in this wonderful, nutty business, the federal debt was going to crush our economy.  President Reagan had just got his tax cuts put into law and David Stockton, (remember him?, “wrong for an entire career Stockton”), told us the $5.3  trillion in debt would bankrupt (B.K.) the USA.

Inflation was off the chart and the U.S. dollar, like today was doomed!  Social Security, we were told in 1982, had just ten years of payouts and then it was bankrupt too, by 1992! NOT!

Oh yeah, and what currency was our U.S. dollar going to collapse to?  The Chinese Yuan of course.  Just like today, complete bologna!

There are two things’ humans really can’t look at directly; one is the sun and two is the truth!  So, for those who are okay looking at the truth around the U.S. dollar, here is a chart from Bespoke that measures the U.S. dollar.  It is adjusted for the inflation monster, that as you will read (again) below, is so dead it is irrelevant to any current investment discussion.

Our U.S. Dollar has only been stronger on two, maybe three, if you squint, occasions!

These are just more fact based and source cited data points that will keep The WSG Team continuing to add lower risk, lower volatility, and best-of-class investments to our client family’s asset allocations.

I’m interested in your thoughts, comments, and observations.  Feel welcome to call, email, or stop by the office and say Hi.
